Ghost of Tsushima Has the Best Launch Ever for a First-Party PS4 Game in Japan

Ghost of Tsushima has done incredibly well for itself in Japan. The numbers are in, and the open world title has enjoyed the best launch sales of any first-party PlayStation 4 game. Sucker Punch’s latest moved 222,000 copies, which was more than enough to rocket the title to the top of the Japanese software charts. Its closest competitor was fellow new release Paper Mario: The Origami King, which sold less than half of Ghost’s total.

Having received word that Ghost of Tsushima had sold out in Japan following its release last week, we were expecting a big result for Sony — and the PS4 exclusive has delivered. It’ll be interesting to see whether it can sustain some kind of momentum in Japan going forward — most PS4 games these days tend to have a short stint at the peak before falling out of the top ten completely.

In any case, given Ghost of Tsushima’s setting, it’s nice to see that it’s been a hit with Japanese gamers.
